Supercomputing -GARUDA boot camp OSDD

Dear Friends,

For the past few months we all have been devoting our time and energy to make the Cheminformatics program of OSDD a success under the leadership of Dr.VINOD SCARIA &
Dr. Jaleel who is your Principal Investigator.
Dr.jaleel and team is continuosly working with students & researchers of OSDD-CHEMO div to make the job an enjoyable task with the help of online interactions, video tutorials and much more.
It has been our concerted endeavor to provide super compute power for our scientific work. Towards this end OSDD have tied up with CDAC Garuda grid on which most of you have registered. In order to facilitate your effective usage of Garuda grid resources, OSDD, in collaboration with CDAC is planning a Garuda Boot Camp on 27, 28 and 29 December 2010
Dr. Jaleel the PI will be leading the program and others hosting the workshop at MCC Calicut with Special arrangements to receive all the participants and make there stay comfortable & enjoyable.Boot camp is not only for Garuda training but for giving some idea in data mining techniques , bio informatics and computational chemistry .
Dr. Jaleel and his team will be ready to receive All participants including students,Researchers & scientists working with OSDD few days in advance at Bangalore city base.
Project Director Zakir Thomas has described the God own`s country with some interesting facts
""""""""Calicut is a small but historic city. Thomas Friedman, in his book the ‘World is Flat’ refers to the travel of Vasco de Gama round the cape of Good Hope, to India, where he landed near Calicut. He says Gama went back with tons of merchandise and reported to the King that the world is round. I hope that in today’s interconnected world, this voyage of yours to this historic city will let you experience how the web has made this a flat world, at least so far as access to knowledge is concerned.""""" Zakir thomas has given there best wishes to all participants joining at Malabar Christian college-calicut """"""""
Participants are also very eager to meet all members and researchers of OSDD chemoinformatics group at the bootcamp and share vision and idea regarding Open Source Drug Discovery.
As the crew team of OSDD karnatka leading by Dr Prasad M Alex ,Associate Professor in Chemistry is going to take care of all the members at BANGALORE base who all are joining at bootcamp.
Crew team will be at Bangalore from 22 nd morning to 23 eve at both railway station (Bangalore city and yaswanth pura ) for assisting you all .. it is advisable to all participants to get there tkts reserved to reach Bangalore on 22nd DEC 8.00am to 23 rd evening December.

Thanks to you all once again ,Hope we will achieve one step closer to our goal after getting the SUPERCOMPUTING knowledge from all of the OSDD & MCC calicut scientists .

C2D Second Phase(The Grand Begining)

After sucessfull completion of phase first of CONNECT To DECODE programme the project has moved to its second phase of work.
There are several projects available at this phase for registration to the students who are willing to work .Exciting Opportunity for Summer Students who would like to be part of a global community trying to collaborate trying to understand the Biology of TB.
The sub areas of the second phase are as under-
Among these new projects two of them has already started , Cloning , Expression and Purification of Proteins-http://c2d.osdd.net/home/cep & Cheminformatics and Chemical Data Mining-http://c2d.osdd.net/home/cheminformatics headed by various PIs of the project.
students are getting various types of training under their project PI at different stages of work.

Initial steps of the project CLONING (CEP) is under wet lab experiments at Sastra University.
Cloning in Action can be seen at this link-http://c2d.osdd.net/home/cep/movs

Apart from all this a huge number of enthusiastic students have started there allotted assignments which are regularly updated on the project websites.

Previous Connect to Decode Programmes
Students & researchers can have the look at the link for the first phase of C2D programme here-

Bravo!! Congratulations to CSIR scientists and all the students involved in C2D phase First.

अद्भुत कार्य:-A Reality
Hundreds of scientists from across the country put in joint efforts at a three-day 'Connect 2 Decode' (C2D) conference to complete the final re-annotation of the 4,000- odd genes that determine how the TB bug lives and infects humans.
This is the first time that a comprehensive mapping of the Mtb genome has been compiled, verified and made publicly available. C2D's findings may contain critical data to unlock previously undiscovered details of tuberculosis (TB)
  • We need to have a balanced view between health as a right and health as a business. It is because there has been imbalance in this view that diseases like TB, with high mortality but low profitability, are neglected by the current system of pharmaceutical research,” said Dr. Samir K. Brahmachari, scientist and Director-General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
  • C2D demonstrates the power of people to connect through the internet, particular young people, and accomplish complex research tasks. It is also a distinct move from a hierarchical based model of doing science towards one of equal collaboration.", project director Zakir Thomas said.

  • OSDD is a completely new formula across the world. Here we are making all our progress available to public. Anyone can take advantage and develop a drug based on our research. The aim here is not patents but drug discovery for a neglected disease," said Rajesh Gokhle, a senior scientist associated with the project.
Under the C2D project, researchers and students pooled their time and skills using online tools to provide insights into 4,000 genes of the deadly pathogen.
The MTB map has been hosted on a web portal (www.osdd.net) custom-developed by Infosys and uses an emerging format (Web 3.0) that allows users to get better search results while searching for data for research .

Historical workshop in the World

Historical workshop in the World...----
As the last day of the OSDD conference came to the end after IPW team generated the Mtb network of project MAPATHON There was a lot of enthusiasm and excitement. Prabhakar tried his best to pin up the poster with help from the team, and Samik and Yukiko providing full support to them. The Project Director, Zakir Thomas, was also a part of this activity .
At the moment of valedictory session N. R. Narayana Murthy the Founder-Chairman of Infosys Technologies Limited has unveil gene map for TB on portal os CSIR,
As this was the Historical workshop in the World which was continuously supported by India 800 foundation lead by Lord Bhatia has surprised the members of OSDD c2d 2010 Mtb project by presenting them the E-machines LAPTOPS to every selected member of c2d2010 as the royality of there dedicated work and had requested to every one to have a word from the Novel Book Gitanjali .It is a book to feel and cherish that is wrote by the great writer Rabindra Nath Tagaore.

THe session started by GPS Raghava(IMTECH)- MANAGING AND ANNOTATING M.Tb DATA USING DrugPedia AND MycoTB--- ON THE SILICO approach towrads the war against Mtb using OSDD PLATFORM as the C2D was an EXPERIMENT TO INVOLVE STUDENTS, .......and it has rocked....................
Later the session proceeds with the SET UP OF MAPATHON(creation of network) with konnichiwa(-hello in Japanese) to all from Matsuoko Yukiko-SBI ,Here all the members from OSDD learnt about the Pathway Modeling and Cu ration using CellDesigner + Payao and then all were moved directly to a a kind of power session to complete the task of creating the network ............................
and the members were really expressed there arigatou-(thanks) to Matsuoko Yukiko-SBI, Samik Ghosh sir & Hiroaki Kitano-SBI,And the they expressed there arigatou to the IGIG members who helped all the kid scientist in perfroming there task.
The group work session was too much hectic to handle but interesting to work on too........
At the end of the day The TBGO TEAM interacted with each other in presence of Dr.Sameer Brahmchari sir,Zakir Thomas Sir & Dr.Vinod sir,and discussed there experiences on the C2D project and with lots of enjoyment ,,,,,,,,,,,,nd then at last all were forcefully directed by SUKHBIR Sir to Dinner....................and it was true that now TBGO group were facing the prob in finding food due to time delayed by TBGO group interaction................bt at last all was set and back to Hostels by busses..........................................
